Why this petition matters

Started by FUTURE-PROOF PLANNING. Chichester West

We oppose all housing development approvals until Chichester District Council (CDC) produces a ' Local Plan', that is sustainable and future-proof.

We reject all current speculative developments for our Harbour Communities. CDC need to prove that a Local Plan is future-proof and takes into account the advise of the committee on Climate Change

Furthermore, this 'Local Plan' must put in significant protection measures to safeguard our 'Unique Local Environment ' which then enables our communities and economy to function, including: a) A future-proof 'Waste Water Treatment System' with capacity to deal with current sewage and grey water and to cope with predicted future flash-flood occurrences, annual rainfall and some additional housing. b) Give lawful assurances that all 7 proposed 'Wildlife Corridors' will be protected as a minimum baseline. c) Significant enhancement of 'Green Spaces' and 're-wilding schemes' within the A259 Corridor. This is crucial as evidence of natural world decline is stark a shown in the 'State of Nature Report 2019'. This is vital to carbon capture and wildlife biodiversity. d) Provide meaningful, joined-up walking and cycling paths within easy access of all local communities.

We fully support measures to enable access to affordable and social housing, and to ensure a more fair, equitable system. Housing must be low emission in design and implementation as part of the green building revolution.

Any future building schemes must demonstrate proven sustainability, protecting current biodiversity such as existing hedgerows and soil systems. We are also calling for accountability regarding wildlife crime with a more transparent and enforced legal system in line with policy.

It is vital that floodplains remain and are further enhanced as sea levels and extreme weather events gather pace and intensity.

In our view, natural habitat and generally high grade agricultural green fields do not seem to be currently valued or significantly protected. Most of the area is seemingly under huge pressure from aggressive building development and have even been identified in the published 'HELAA' report. This details every parish within the Chichester District. It simply highlights and encourages a clamber for developers who continue to see easy picking.

We believe that Mayday Action Group can help joining local groups together in the debate on delivering more sustainable communities. We feel passionattely that we are all guardians for the future environment and for future generations.
